Champions Chennai Super Kings Retain IPL Title


Chennai Super Kings played  as a champion to win their second consecutive IPL title. Chennai Super Kings who had remain unbeaten at home this season maintained their invincible record at home to defeat Royal Challengers Bangalore and emerge as IPL 2011 champions.

Chennai Super Kings captain M.S.Dhoni won the toss and elected to bat. The openers Michael Hussey and Murali Vijay, put on 159 runs (in just 89 balls) in an impressive display of power hitting to practically bat RCB out of the match. Chennai Super Kings went on to score 205 for five in their stipulated 20 overs.

Royal Challengers Bangalore had all hopes on Chris Gayle to make any impact but R Ashwin dismissed the in-form Chris Gayle for a duck. Royal Challengers Bangalore kept losing wickets at regular interval and could only score 147 for 8 off their stipulated 20 overs.

Leaders Mumbai Indians Face Biggest Upset

Mumbai Indians who are at the top of the points table and have qualified for the play offs faced the biggest upset of the season when Kings XI Punjab, placed tenth at the start of the game, produced a strong performance to defeat them by 78 runs.

Punjab who batted first scored 163/8 in their allotted 20 overs despite a five wicket haul from Munaf Patel. Shaun Marsh scored 43 while Dinesh Karthik made 31 to help Punjab reach competitive score against a powerful Mumbai batting line up.

Mumbai Indians who started poorly as they lost Tendulkar with the score at 19 never recovered and were ultimately bowled out for just 87 runs from 12.5 overs. Bhargav Bhatt took 4/22 and was awarded the Man of the Match award.

Pune Warriors Win 2nd Match In A Row

Pune Warriors outclassed Deccan Chargers as disciplined bowling from Mitchel Marsh and Yuvraj Singh and good batting from Manish Pandey and Sourav Ganguly. This match saw Sourav Ganguly make his debut for Pune Warriors.

The match was irrelevant as it has no impact on who goes to the playoffs but Pune's professional display gave something to cheer for their fans. Yuvraj Singh took 2/17 and Marsh took 4/25 as Deccan managed just 136/8 after a promising start. Pune scored 137/4 off 18.2 overs as Deccan slumped to their 8th loss from 11 games this season.

Chennai Super Kings Crush Rajsthan Royals At Jaipur

Chennai Super Kings marched to second spot in the points table as they defeated Rajastan Royals at Jaipur. A powerful batting display from Chennai saw them score 196/3 from their allotted 20 overs with contributions from Mike Hussey, Vijay, Raina and Dhoni. Te defeat have left Rajasthan in a difficult situation where they need to win all their remaining matches to qualify for the play-offs.

Chennai's professional display meant that Rajasthan Royal's intimidating home record was broken and the home team was defeated at Sawai Mansingh Stadium , Jaipur only for the 2nd time this year.

After Chennai Super Kings batsmen got the runs the bowler's came to the party and dismissed Rajasthan Royals for only 133 helping Chennai score a 64 runs win which lifted them to the second spot in the points table.

Chennai Super Kings Outclass Pune Warriors

Chennai Super Kings recorded their 3rd win of IPL 2011 thanks to some incisive bowling by Albie Morkel and R.Ashwin along with great display of ground fielding. Chennai successfully defended a score of 142 defeating Pune Warriors India by 25 runs played at the MA Chidambaram stadium.

Chennai Super Kings who are the defending champions have looked out of form this season and their bowling has been a real area of concern. But yesterday the Chennai bowlers assisted  by some remarkable fielding successfully defended a modest yet competitive score of 142 to take their team to the fourth spot on the points table.
